Every restaurant has a name. Ours carries something deeper – a soul shaped by two places we love. One is an island in the Indian Ocean. The other is a coastal town bathed in Queensland sun. Together, they gave life to “Ra”.
A Word Rooted in Sri Lankan Tradition
In Sri Lanka, Ra isn’t just a drink. It’s part of daily life and culture.
It starts with the sweet sap of the coconut flower. Once collected, it’s left in the sun to ferment on its own. No additives. No shortcuts. Just time, heat and nature working together.
What comes out of that process is a gently fizzy, naturally probiotic brew with a soft sweetness and a hint of the tropics. It’s shared between friends, raised in celebration and remembered as a taste that connects people. It represents warmth, community and the simple joy of being together.
A Name That Also Looks Toward the Sun
Ra is more than a Sri Lankan word. It’s also one of the oldest names in history – the ancient Sun God of Egypt, a symbol of renewal and light.
And here we are in Sunshine Beach, under the same bright sky, where the morning sun spills gold across the ocean each day. The meaning felt right. It felt like us.
Choosing this name allowed us to honour two worlds at once –the sun that rises over our beach and the living tradition that rises from our island.
Where Two Worlds Meet
- This blend of cultures became the heart of who we are.
- Island roots meet coastal breeze.
- Bold spices meet fresh local produce.
- Sri Lankan warmth meets Sunshine Coast ease.
The name “Ra” carries that story. It reminds us where our flavours come from and where we are now. It’s a link between home and here.More Than a Name – A Way of Serving
- Our food carries the warmth we grew up with.
- Our hospitality comes from a place of care.
- Our space is built for connection – long chats, shared plates, slow afternoons and good company.
Everything we do at RA Restaurant & Bar comes back to that simple idea: light, life and love in every moment.
This Is Ra,
- A place where the sun, the sea and the spirit of Sri Lanka come together.
- A place shaped by tradition.
- A place shaped by this coast.
- A place where you can feel both.
